How do I add a pop-out that opens when a viewer clicks?

Updated · 3 min read

Short answer

A pop-out is a panel of items that opens when a viewer clicks a button, hotspot, image or text. Set the Click Action to Open pop-out, choose or make a pop-out, then select Edit pop-out to add its items. The video pauses while the pop-out is open unless you turn off Pause Video.

  1. Select Interactions and open the button, hotspot, image or text that viewers will click.
  2. Under Content, set Click Action to Open pop-out.
  3. In the Choose pop-out list, pick a pop-out. To make a new one, pick New pop-out…, type a name and select Create.
  4. Leave Pause Video on to stop the video while the pop-out is open, or turn it off to let the video play behind it.
  5. Select Edit pop-out. Mindstamp saves the interaction and opens the Pop-outs page for that pop-out.
  6. Use Add to put buttons, hotspots, text and images in the pop-out. Drag them into place on the video.
  7. Select Design to add a panel behind the items, a close button, or a dimmed video.
  8. Preview the video, click the interaction, and check that the pop-out opens and closes.

How viewers close a pop-out

  • Give an item inside the pop-out the click action Continue to close the pop-out and play the video.
  • An item with Close pop-out closes it and leaves the video paused until the viewer presses play.
  • The close button from Design closes the pop-out. If the pop-out paused the video, the video plays again.
  • A click action that moves the viewer, such as Change Time, Switch Video or Show Card, also closes it. Opening another pop-out replaces the one that is open.

Change how a pop-out looks

On the Pop-outs page, select Design. Show a panel draws a box behind the items. Choose Full, Left, Right or Custom for its place, then a Background color and a Transition. Show a close button adds an X in the top corner. Dim the video darkens the video behind the pop-out. Select the swatch next to it to change the color.

A new pop-out starts with the panel and the close button on. With all three settings off, the pop-out shows only its items, at their places on the video.

Rename, delete and find pop-outs

The Pop-outs page lists every pop-out in the video, with its number of items and the number of interactions that open it. Select Rename to change a name. Viewers do not see the name.

Mindstamp does not delete a pop-out that an interaction still opens. Change or delete those interactions first. When you delete a pop-out, its items are deleted too.

To get back to the Pop-outs page, open an interaction that uses Open pop-out and select Edit pop-out. In the editor preview, you can also double-click an item inside an open pop-out.

Copy pop-outs to another video

When you import interactions from another video, an interaction that opens a pop-out shows + pop-out and its number of items. The pop-out and its items come with it. A copy of a video keeps its pop-outs.

Pop-out, Magic Menu or card?

  • Pop-out: any buttons, text, images and hotspots, placed anywhere on the video and opened by any interaction. A video can have many.
  • Magic Menu: one menu of links and resources for the whole video, which viewers open from the player.
  • Show Card: a ready-made info, media or product card. It is quick to set up, with fewer layout choices.
