How do I add a Mindstamp video to Adobe Captivate?

Updated · 3 min read

Short answer

In Captivate 13.2, select Add media blocks, then Web Object, and paste the Mindstamp Basic iframe code under Embed code. In Captivate Classic, select Objects, then Web. The Captivate course does not receive the video score, so upload the Mindstamp SCORM package to your LMS as its own item when you need one.

  1. In Mindstamp, publish the video from its Share page if it is not published yet.
  2. Under Embed, choose Basic iframe and select Copy embed code.
  3. In Captivate, open the slide. On the left toolbar, select Add media blocks, then Web Object.
  4. Select the placeholder. In the Content section, choose Embed code and paste the code. To use the address instead, choose URL and paste the address inside src.
  5. In the code, set the iframe width and height to 100% so the player fills the block.
  6. Preview the slide, then publish and play the course in your LMS on a computer, a tablet, and a phone.

Add the video in Captivate Classic

  • On the toolbar, select Objects, then Web.
  • In the Property Inspector, paste the address in Address, or choose the Embed code option and paste the Basic iframe code.
  • Leave Auto Load on. Show the object in the slide, or in a new browser window at Default, Full Screen, or a custom size.
  • Classic web objects always sit on top of other objects, so keep captions and buttons clear of the player.

If the web object is blank

  • Use https. Adobe says an https LMS may not launch an http page in a web object.
  • Captivate cannot show sites that block framing. Check that the address starts with https://embed.mindstamp.com, or with your custom domain.
  • Adobe suggests testing web objects on tablets and phones, and with script blocking on.
  • In Classic, Adobe suggests opening the address in a plain iframe page first, to rule out the site.

An Adobe community answer from December 2024 says the all-new Captivate 12.4 had no web object, only YouTube and Vimeo. Adobe’s current help documents the Web Object, and the current version is 13.2. Captivate 13.2 allows at most two web objects on one slide.

Send the score with a separate SCORM item

  • On the Mindstamp Share page, under Export, select Download SCORM package. This needs a Core plan or higher. Choose a version your LMS lists and a Completion Checkpoint of 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, 95 or 100 percent.
  • Upload the ZIP file to your LMS as its own course or item, next to the Captivate course. Do not add it to the Captivate project.
  • Enroll a test learner in both items and check that the LMS shows the video score.

If your account restricts embed domains

If you set Allowed embed domains in Mindstamp, add your LMS domain to the list. Otherwise learners see “Video not available: Code 617”. See restrict embed domains.

Know which learner watched

The embed does not receive the learner’s LMS account. To see names in Mindstamp reports, add lead capture to the video so learners enter their name and email. A SCORM package passes the name and ID from the LMS instead. See viewer identity and anonymous viewers.
