Can I restrict the websites my video can be embedded on?

Short answer

Yes. Go to your account Settings, find Domains, and add each approved website under Allowed embed domains. When the list has at least one domain, your embedded videos play only on those websites. The list applies to every video in the account.

How to do it

1. Open the account menu at the bottom of the side menu and select Settings.
2. Go to the Domains section.
3. Under Allowed embed domains, type a domain, such as mywebsite.com, and press Enter.
4. Add every domain and subdomain where you embed videos, including your LMS or help center.
5. Open a page on an approved site and check that the video plays. Then check a page that is not approved: it shows “Video not available: Code 617”.

How domains match

• A domain matches only that exact host. mywebsite.com does not cover www.mywebsite.com. Add both if you use both.
• A wildcard such as *.mywebsite.com covers one level of subdomain, such as www.mywebsite.com or learn.mywebsite.com. It does not cover mywebsite.com itself.
• An empty list means your videos can be embedded anywhere.
• Allowed embed domains is available on Core and above.

What the list does not cover

• The share link still works, because it is not an embed. To stop link sharing, turn on Embed only in the video’s Settings under Advanced.
• The check uses the page address that the viewer’s browser reports. Some browsers and privacy tools send no address, and the video then loads. For content that must stay private, also add a password or access list. See control who can watch.

Troubleshooting “Code 617”

• Check the exact host in the viewer’s address bar, including www or a subdomain, and add it.
• An LMS, course platform or site builder often shows lessons from its own domain, not yours. Add that domain too.
• A preview inside a site builder can come from a different domain than the live site. Test on the published page.
