How do I set up a custom domain for my video links?
On Pro and higher plans, share videos from a subdomain of your own site. Add the domain, create one CNAME record, and verify DNS in Mindstamp.
Short answer
On Pro and higher plans, the account owner adds a subdomain such as video.example.com in Settings > Domains > Custom Domain, then adds the CNAME record Mindstamp shows at their DNS provider and selects Verify DNS. After it shows Connected, new share links use your domain.
How to do it
- Sign in as the account owner and open Settings from the side menu.
- Scroll to Domains.
- In Custom Domain, type a subdomain you own, such as https://video.example.com, and select Add Domain.
- Mindstamp shows a DNS record with Type (CNAME), Name and Value. Select Copy record.
- Sign in to the company that manages DNS for your domain, and add that CNAME record exactly as shown.
- If you use Cloudflare, set the proxy status of the record to DNS only.
- Back in Mindstamp, select Verify DNS. DNS changes can take time to spread, so try again later if it is not connected yet.
- Test: when the status shows Connected, copy a share link from any video. Expected result: the link starts with your subdomain, and it plays in a private browser window.
Requirements
- A Pro, Scale, Ultra or Enterprise plan. Custom domains are not available during the free trial.
- A subdomain, such as video.example.com. A root domain such as example.com is refused.
- A subdomain that does not already host a website.
- Only the account owner sees the Domains section.
- One custom domain per account. After you save it, the field locks. To change it, contact support.
If verification fails
- Check that the record type is CNAME, not A or TXT.
- Check the Name. Most DNS providers want only the subdomain part, such as video, not the full address.
- Remove any other record with the same name.
- On Cloudflare, turn the proxy off (DNS only).
- Wait and select Check again. The DNS status card links to CNAME instructions for common DNS providers.
No custom domain yet
On Core and higher plans, set a URL path in the same Domains section. Your links then include your company name in the path, on the Mindstamp address. To remove the Mindstamp name from links altogether, use Hide Mindstamp branding on the Share page.
Allowed embed domains
The Domains section also holds Allowed embed domains, which limits the sites that can embed your videos. That setting is separate from the custom domain.
