Can I play an interactive video without an internet connection?
Download a Mindstamp offline package to run an interactive video in Chrome or Edge with no internet, and save viewer results locally.
Short answer
Yes. On the video’s Share page, select Download offline package, create the package, and download the ZIP. Extract it and open START EXPERIENCE.html in Chrome or Edge on a Windows or Mac computer. Offline views and answers stay on that computer and do not appear in Mindstamp reports.
How to do it
- Open the video, select Share, and publish the video if needed.
- Under Export, select Download offline package. Read the expiration date and notes in the window.
- Select Create offline package. Large videos can take several minutes. You can close the window while the build continues.
- When the window says Your package is ready, select Download ZIP.
- Extract the complete ZIP. Do not open files from inside the ZIP.
- Open START EXPERIENCE.html from the extracted folder in Chrome or Edge, and select Start Experience.
- For full screen, press F11 on Windows or Control+Command+F on Mac.
Test before the event
Turn off Wi-Fi on the computer you will use at the event, open the package, and go through every path. Expected result: the video plays, questions, buttons, hotspots, branches and captions work, and each online-only action shows an offline notice. If a message says a required media file is missing, extract the full ZIP again and open the file from the extracted folder.
What works offline
- Buttons, text, images, hotspots and questions with scores.
- Variables, conditional interactions, video branching and end screens.
- Captions, and audio and video clips in the video.
- Every video the experience can branch to is included, up to 100 videos.
What does not work offline
- Links, email and phone actions, embedded web pages, payments, carts, Genie and certificates show an offline notice.
- File upload, drawing, audio and video responses are not available.
- Dubbed audio tracks are not included. Translated captions and text still work.
- Videos with no downloadable MP4, such as YouTube videos, cannot be packaged.
- Safari and phone browsers are not supported.
Save results between viewers
Offline views, lead capture and answers are not sent to Mindstamp. Select Save Results to save them to a file in the computer’s Downloads folder. Refreshing the page clears the results, so save them before you refresh for the next viewer.
Expiration and updates
- The package is a snapshot. Rebuild it after you edit the video.
- A package expires 90 days after you build it, or at the end of your current subscription or trial period if that comes first. The window shows the exact date before you build. After the date, the package shows that it has expired.
- To extend a package, renew your subscription and rebuild it.
- Packages up to 8 GB can be built. For a package over 4 GB, copy it to a USB drive rather than extracting a large download on site.
