Can I export a Mindstamp video as a SCORM package for my LMS?

Short answer

Yes. On Core and higher plans, the video's Share page has a Download SCORM package button. You can choose SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 (3rd edition) or SCORM 2004 (4th edition). The package reports completion and a score for each learner to your LMS.

How to do it

1. Publish the video. The Share page shows its export options only for a published video.
2. Open the video and select Share.
3. Under Export, select Download SCORM package.
4. In SCORM Version, select the version your LMS supports. If you are not sure, start with SCORM 1.2.
5. In Completion Checkpoint, select the point at which the LMS records completion. Use 10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 90%, 95% or 100%.
6. Optional: select Unbranded to load the video from the unbranded player address.
7. Select Download Package. Your browser saves a ZIP file.
8. Upload the ZIP file to your LMS as a new SCORM course. Do not unzip it.
9. Launch the course as a test learner and watch past the checkpoint. The LMS shows the course as completed, with a score.

What the package sends to your LMS

• When the course opens, the package sets the lesson status to incomplete.
• The package reads the learner name and learner ID from the LMS and passes them to Mindstamp as the viewer name and custom ID. Your Mindstamp reports then show the same learner as the LMS.
• When the learner reaches the completion checkpoint, the package sets the status to completed and sends a score. SCORM 2004 packages also set the success status to passed.
• The score is the percent of questions answered correctly, out of all questions in the video that have a correct answer. The first answer to each question counts. A question the learner did not answer counts as incorrect.
• The package does not send individual answers to the LMS. Answers, clicks and paths stay in Mindstamp reports.

Choose the completion checkpoint with care

The player reports progress at 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, 95 and 100 percent of the video. Select one of these values. The 80% and 85% options in the list do not currently record completion.

The checkpoint follows the playback position, not the total time watched. A learner who drags the seek bar to the end can reach the checkpoint without watching. To stop this, turn off seeking and require the questions. See how to stop learners skipping ahead.

How the package works

The ZIP file is small. It contains a manifest, one page, and a script that loads your hosted Mindstamp video inside the LMS. The video itself is not in the file.

• The learner needs an internet connection.
• Changes you make to the video in Mindstamp show in the LMS at once. You do not need to upload a new package.
• If you unpublish or delete the video, or your subscription ends, the course in the LMS stops playing.
• Views from the LMS count toward your plan's streaming minutes and appear in Mindstamp reports.
• If the package cannot find the LMS connection after 30 seconds, the learner sees a message that progress may not be recorded. This usually means the course was opened outside the LMS, or in a way that hides the LMS connection.
