Update, October 2026: Chapters still work this way in Mindstamp, with a simpler editor. Open a video, choose Chapters in the editor's side menu, set a time, type a title, and click Add. The seek bar splits into chapter segments and shows the chapter title when a viewer hovers over it, and viewers can open the Guide from the edge of the player to search chapter titles and jump to one. The chapters feature page shows how chapters work today. If you came here to add chapters to a video on YouTube itself, YouTube builds them from timestamps in the video description: the first timestamp must be 00:00, you need at least three timestamps in ascending order, and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long, according to YouTube Help (checked October 2026). Our free video chapter generator turns a timestamped transcript into chapters in that format.
We're happy to share that Chapters are now live on Mindstamp!
One of our most-requested features ever, Chapters let you mark points of interest or material throughout your video. Once created, chapters appear along the video seek bar in your brand color and are searchable and clickable for quick navigation from our new Video Guide.
Adding chapters to your videos couldn't be easier. When editing a video, choose Chapters in the side menu. Set a chapter time, enter a title, and click Add. You can add as many chapters as you want.
To show the Video Guide, open Design, go to Behavior, and turn on one or more of Show Guide Chapters, Show Guide Interactions, and Show Guide Transcripts. Our post on searching your videos with transcripts covers the transcript side of the Guide.
Even if your video is short or doesn't have natural break points, you can use chapters to highlight critical points in the video or draw your audience's attention. To list chapter titles on the video itself, turn on Pin Chapters on Screen in the same Behavior section. For a menu of section buttons that marks each section as watched, see our guide to building a chapter menu with review.
Watch the live chapters demo, a 44-second video with nine chapters, or start a free trial and add your own. We think you'll love it!
