Free multiple choice question generator

Generate multiple choice questions with plausible distractors, correct answers, and explanations: from any material or topic.

Free, no account needed. Your content is processed once and not stored.

What it does

The hard part is the wrong answers

Anyone can write the correct option. This tool works on the distractors, because that is where question quality lives.

Credible distractors

Wrong options drawn from the same material: near-misses, not throwaways.

Your option count

Three, four, or five choices per question, with exactly one marked correct.

Explained answers

A one-line explanation per question, for the learner and for your review.

How to use it

How to generate questions

  1. Paste source material, or name the topic to test.
  2. Choose the question count, difficulty, and options per question.
  3. Keep "Avoid obvious wrong answers" on unless you want warm-up questions.
  4. Review, copy, or download as CSV: or deliver them inside a video with Mindstamp.

In depth

What makes a multiple choice question good

A multiple choice question depends on its distractors. Absurd options measure test-taking skill. Options based on common mistakes make the question a better test of understanding.

Common faults include options with visibly different lengths, "all of the above", unconditional claims, and grammatical mismatches between the stem and an option. The generator checks for these faults. The "avoid obvious wrong answers" setting also checks each distractor for plausibility.

Option count is a trade-off, not a tradition. Four options is the default for a reason: three raises the guessing floor to 33%, five usually forces one filler distractor. If your material only supports two strong wrong answers, three good options beat four with a passenger.

Review remains yours. A generated question is a strong draft: check that the correct answer is defensibly correct in your context, and that no distractor is accidentally true in your organization’s edge cases.

Questions

Common questions

What does "Avoid obvious wrong answers" change?

It instructs the model to check each distractor for plausibility: no joke options, giveaways, or "all of the above". Turn it off for deliberately easy warm-up questions.

How many options should each question have?

Four is the standard: a 25% guessing floor and usually three defensible distractors. Use three when the material supports only two strong wrong answers.

Can it write questions from a topic alone?

Yes. Without pasted material it writes standard-knowledge questions for the topic. With material, every question and distractor is grounded in your text.

What export formats are available?

Copy individual questions or the full set, or download plain text or CSV with question, options, correct answer, and explanation columns.
