What it does

Decisions with consequences

Not a quiz in costume: a connected story where each choice changes what happens next.

A connected tree

Every choice leads somewhere: a next decision shaped by that choice, or an ending it earned.

Marked choices

Each option is labelled strong, poor, or neutral, so the learning point survives the drama.

Both endings written

A success outcome, and a failure outcome that tells the learner what to take from failing.

How to use it

How to build a branching scenario

  1. Describe the situation to train, in a sentence or two, with the tension included.
  2. Set the learning objective, decision count, and complexity.
  3. Generate and walk the tree: each decision, each consequence, each ending.
  4. Copy the scenario for your course, or film it as a branching video in Mindstamp.

In depth

What makes branching scenarios work

People learn judgment by exercising it. A branching scenario puts the learner in the moment before the mistake: the angry customer, the safety shortcut, the pushy negotiation: and lets them choose, consequence-first, with no real damage. It is the closest training gets to experience.

The craft is in the connections. In a weak scenario the choices are cosmetic: every path reaches the same next scene, and learners notice within two decisions. This generator maintains state: a choice that inflames the customer produces a harder next scene; a choice that de-escalates produces an easier one: so the tree teaches cause and effect, not menu navigation.

Each poor choice has a believable consequence and a recovery path. This teaches the learner how to correct a bad opening and how to prevent it. The failure ending states what went wrong and what to do next.

As video, the scenario becomes stronger: actors carry the tension, and the branch choices appear as buttons on the video itself. Mindstamp routes playback by choice and records the full path each learner took: which decisions they got right on the first try, and which needed a second pass.

Questions

Common questions

What subjects work best as branching scenarios?

Anything where judgment beats recall: customer conversations, safety decisions, management moments, sales objections, compliance grey areas. If the skill is "knowing what to do when", it branches well.

How many decision points should I use?

Three is the workhorse: enough to show consequences compounding, short enough to hold attention. Use two for a single teachable moment and four for complex situations.

Can I make the scenario simpler or more complex?

Yes. Set the complexity before generation, or generate a new version at a different level. Complexity changes the number of branches and the amount of state each branch carries.

How do I film this as an interactive video?

Shoot one clip per node, then add choice buttons in Mindstamp that jump to the matching clip. One video, multiple paths, and per-learner path reporting.

With Mindstamp

Let learners practice the hard conversation

Generate the scenario free, then make it playable: choices on the video, consequences on screen, every path reported.
