Interactive video in Moodle

Paste the Mindstamp iframe code into a Moodle Page or Text and media area, and students answer inside the course while Mindstamp records each answer. To put completion and a grade in the Moodle gradebook, upload a SCORM package as a SCORM activity instead.

Add the video to a course

Embed, teacher content

Paste the iframe code in a Page

  1. In Mindstamp, publish the video from its Share page.
  2. Under Embed, choose Basic iframe and select Copy embed code. Keep allowfullscreen in the code.
  3. In Moodle, turn editing on and add a Page resource, or edit a Text and media area.
  4. In the editor, open the HTML view, paste the code, and save.
  5. Open the course as a test student and play the video in fullscreen.

SCORM activity

Add a SCORM package

  1. On the Mindstamp Share page, under Export, select Download SCORM package. This needs a Core plan or higher.
  2. In SCORM Version, choose SCORM 1.2. Moodle supports SCORM 2004 sequencing only in part.
  3. In Completion Checkpoint, choose 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, 95 or 100 percent. The 80 and 85 percent options do not record completion.
  4. In the course, turn editing on, add a SCORM package activity, and upload the ZIP file.
  5. Set the grading method and completion rules. Run the activity as a test student and check the gradebook.

Known issues

Check these before you publish

The iframe disappears
Moodle removes iframes in activities that students write in, such as Forum, Wiki, Glossary, and Assignment. Use a Page, a Text and media area, or a Book.
No fullscreen
Moodle does not add fullscreen permission to an iframe. Keep allowfullscreen and allow="autoplay; fullscreen" in the code.
SCORM 2004 navigation problems
Moodle supports SCORM 2004 sequencing only in part. Use a SCORM 1.2 package.
Check the Moodle app
The Moodle app shows Page content in a web view, where autoplay and fullscreen rules differ. Check the player in the app before launch.

Can I embed an interactive video in Moodle?

Yes. Paste the Mindstamp iframe code into the HTML view of a Page, a Text and media area, a Book chapter, or a Lesson page. Students answer the questions on the course page.

Does a Mindstamp SCORM package send grades to Moodle?

Yes. Add the package as a SCORM activity, and Moodle records completion and a grade in the gradebook. The grade is the percent of questions answered correctly, and only the first answer to each question counts.

Which SCORM version should I use for Moodle?

SCORM 1.2. Moodle imports SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004, but it supports SCORM 2004 sequencing and navigation only in part. See SCORM export.

Should I use H5P or Mindstamp in Moodle?

H5P Interactive Video is part of Moodle and fits videos that stay in Moodle. Mindstamp fits videos that you also use outside Moodle, or that need lead capture, integrations, and one report for every platform. See Mindstamp vs H5P.

Can students embed the video in a forum post?

No. Moodle removes iframe code in activities that all class members can write in, such as Forum, Wiki, and Assignment submissions. Students can paste the share link instead.
