# Interactive JW Player videos without player code

Video host guide · Updated: 2026-10-05 · Mindstamp plays your JW Player video in its own player. Facts checked October 5, 2026.

Paste the public preview page of one JW Player video, and Mindstamp reads the MP4 address from that page and streams the file from the JW CDN. You place questions and branching without player code, and Mindstamp records each viewer’s answers, which JW analytics likely do not see.

## Paste the preview page of one video

| Option | Where in JW Player | What stays in JW Player | What Mindstamp adds |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Public preview page | The preview page of one video, such as cdn.jwplayer.com/previews/ followed by the media ID. | The MP4 file, served from the JW CDN. The JW player does not load. | A no-code editor for questions and branching, plus a transcript from the MP4. |
| Media ID or playlist | A media ID with no web address, or a playlist link. | Everything. | Nothing. Mindstamp refuses a media ID alone, and a playlist likely fails. |
| Upload the file | Your original video file, or one MP4 rendition from the JW Delivery API. | JW Player keeps the original. Mindstamp plays a separate copy. | A copy that keeps playing after JW signed URLs expire. |

## Add a JW Player video by its preview link

### Paste the preview page

Mindstamp needs no JW Player API key. Its server opens the page you paste and reads the video tag (og:video) to find the MP4 address.

1. Find the media ID of the video in JW Player.
2. In your browser, go to cdn.jwplayer.com/previews/ followed by the media ID.
3. In Mindstamp, select **New video**, then **JWPlayer** under **Platforms**.
4. Paste the full address, not the media ID alone, and wait for **Link works**.
5. Select **Create Video**. Mindstamp takes the page title as the video title and adds (Interactive).

### Replace the JW embed on your page

1. Add a button, question, or hotspot at each moment where the viewer should act.
2. Add branching so the viewer’s choice decides the next scene.
3. Publish the video, then copy the embed code from the **Share** page.
4. Replace the JW Player embed on your web page with the Mindstamp code.
5. Load your page in a private window and answer each question once.

## JW Player has chapters and API cue points, and no quiz tool

### JW Player interactivity

- Chapter markers from the Tracks Editor or a WebVTT file.
- Cue points and custom control-bar buttons that a developer adds with the player API.
- A Related plugin that recommends more videos.
- No quizzes, branching, or answer reports in the JWX docs.

### What Mindstamp adds

- Questions, buttons, and hotspots placed on a timeline, without code.
- Branching that changes the next scene based on a choice.
- Each viewer’s answers in Mindstamp reports, with no analytics setup.
- A transcript and Download source, because the JW source is an MP4.

## Check these before you publish

### That link can’t be used

The page has no og:video or twitter:player:stream tag. A playlist or a page that is not one video likely has none. Paste the preview page of one video.

### Playback stops after a while

With Secure video URLs on, JW Player signs MP4 addresses with an expiry time, and JWX suggests one minute to several hours. The address Mindstamp saved likely stops working then. Upload the file instead.

### JW analytics likely show no plays

The JW player does not run in Mindstamp, and JW server-side analytics list HLS and DASH streams, not progressive MP4. Mindstamp reports hold the views and answers.

## JW Player interactive video FAQ

### How do I make JW Player videos interactive?

Open the public preview page of the video, copy its address, and paste it into the **JWPlayer** source on the Mindstamp **New video** page. Create the video when Mindstamp shows **Link works**, then add questions and branching in the editor. Mindstamp streams the MP4 from the JW CDN in its own player and records each answer.

### Which JW Player and Mindstamp plans work?

Any Mindstamp plan can use the **JWPlayer** source, and SCORM packages need Core or higher. On the JW side, Mindstamp needs no API key, only a public preview page. JW lists Token Signing on all three editions, so check whether Secure video URLs is on before you paste a link.

### Does JW Player still record the plays?

Likely not. Mindstamp does not load the JW player. JW does not document player analytics for other players, and its server-side streaming analytics cover HLS and DASH from JW hosting, not progressive MP4. Count views of the interactive video in Mindstamp instead.

### Does JW Player have its own interactive features?

JW Player gives you chapter markers and API cue points, and a developer can add control-bar buttons or overlays with the player API. Its docs list no quizzes or answer reports. Mindstamp gives you an editor for questions and branching, and each viewer’s answers, with no code.

### Can I use a JW Player playlist?

Not as one video. Mindstamp reads one video tag from the page, and a playlist likely has none, so the link fails. Create one Mindstamp video for each JW video, each from its own preview page.

### Is JW Player now called JWX?

The JW Player docs now use the name JWX, and jwplayer.com/pricing opens a JWP Connatix page on jwx.com. The Delivery API still uses cdn.jwplayer.com. Mindstamp still names the source **JWPlayer**, and it accepts links that contain jwplayer.com.
