# Interactive video in Adobe Captivate

Authoring tool guide · Updated: 2026-10-05 · As documented by Adobe Captivate. Documents checked October 5, 2026.

In Captivate 13.2, select Add media blocks, then Web Object, and paste the Mindstamp Basic iframe code to keep graded questions inside the video. Captivate Classic has the same object under Objects, then Web, and in both versions the video score reaches your LMS only through a separate Mindstamp SCORM package.

## Choose by what the LMS must receive

| Method | Where in Adobe Captivate | What Adobe Captivate records | What Mindstamp records |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Web Object | Captivate 13.2: Add media blocks, then Web Object, with a URL or embed code. Classic: Objects, then Web. | Slide views or a quiz, plus user access and optional interaction data. Nothing from the video. | Every answer, click, and branch, scored by learner. Add lead capture to see names. |
| Share link | A link or button in the course. In Classic, a Web object can also open in a new browser window. | Nothing about the video. | The same data as the Web Object. |
| Mindstamp SCORM package | Your LMS, uploaded as a second item beside the published Captivate course. | The LMS records completion and the video score from the package. The Captivate course receives neither. | Each view, with the learner name and ID from the LMS. |

## Add the video to a Captivate slide

### Paste the code in a Web Object

In Captivate Classic, the same object is under **Objects**, then **Web**. In the **Property Inspector**, paste the address in **Address**, or use the **Embed code** option.

1. In Mindstamp, publish the video from its **Share** page.
2. Under **Embed**, choose **Basic iframe** and copy the code. Adobe defines embed code as HTML or JavaScript but shows only an iframe example, so start with the Basic iframe.
3. In Captivate, select **Add media blocks** on the left toolbar, then **Web Object**.
4. Select the placeholder.
5. In the **Content** section, choose **Embed code** and paste the code.
6. Set the iframe width and height to 100% so the player fills the block.
7. Preview the slide.
8. Play the published course in your LMS on a computer and a phone.

### Upload the package to your LMS

The Mindstamp package is a second upload beside the Captivate course, and the Captivate course does not receive its score.

1. On the Mindstamp **Share** page, under **Export**, select **Download SCORM package**. This needs a Core plan or higher.
2. In **SCORM Version**, choose a version your LMS lists.
3. In **Completion Checkpoint**, choose 10, 25, 50, 75, 90, 95 or 100 percent. The 80 and 85 percent options do not record completion.
4. Upload the ZIP file to your LMS as a separate course. Do not unzip it.
5. Enroll a test learner in both courses.
6. As that learner, play the video past the checkpoint.
7. Check the video score in the LMS.

## Captivate video overlays take only Knowledge Check questions, according to Adobe community answers

### Captivate interactive video

- Bookmarks on a slide video timeline that trigger an overlay slide, such as a multiple-choice question.
- In Classic, overlays can be content slides or Knowledge Check slides, in HTML5 output only.
- Adobe community answers say graded quiz slides do not appear in the overlay list, in Classic or in Captivate 12.5.
- Course tracking by slide views or a quiz, plus user access and optional interaction data.

### Graded questions inside the video

- Scored questions at any moment, with the first answer counted toward the score.
- A SCORM item of its own that puts the video score in your LMS.
- Branching and hotspots on the video, with no overlay slides to build.
- Every learner’s answers in one Mindstamp report.

## Check these before you publish

### Two web objects per slide

Captivate 13.2 allows at most two web objects on a slide. Give each Mindstamp video its own slide.

### The web object is blank

Captivate needs https and cannot show sites that block framing. Check that the Mindstamp code uses https and the embed.mindstamp.com address or your custom domain. Test with script blocking off. Check Allowed embed domains in Mindstamp.

### Classic web objects sit on top

In Captivate Classic, a web object always shows above other objects on the slide. Keep captions and buttons clear of it.

### Video not available: Code 617

The LMS domain where the Captivate course runs is not in Allowed embed domains, a Mindstamp account setting. Add it.

## Adobe Captivate interactive video FAQ

### How do I put a Mindstamp video in an Adobe Captivate project?

Use a Web Object. In Captivate 13.2, it is under **Add media blocks**, and it takes a URL or embed code. In Captivate Classic, select **Objects**, then **Web**, and paste the address or an iframe. In both versions, use the Mindstamp **Basic iframe** code or the address inside it.

### Can Captivate interactive video ask graded questions?

Not in its overlays, according to Adobe community answers. Adobe’s help shows a multiple-choice slide as an overlay at a bookmark. Classic help limits overlays to content slides and Knowledge Check slides, and community answers say graded quiz slides do not show in the overlay list. In Mindstamp, each question can have a correct answer that counts toward the score. That score reaches your LMS through the separate SCORM package.

### Does the Captivate course record the Mindstamp score?

No. Captivate tracks its own content, such as slide views and quiz results, and the Adobe pages read on October 5, 2026 do not cover tracking inside a web object. The Mindstamp player sends nothing to the course around it. Put the Mindstamp SCORM package in the LMS beside the course, and the LMS records completion and a score. See [SCORM export](https://mindstamp.com/help/scorm-export).

### Which standards does Captivate publish, and which does Mindstamp use?

Captivate publishes SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004, plus AICC and xAPI. Adobe does not list cmi5 and does not state the SCORM 2004 edition. Mindstamp exports SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 3rd and 4th editions, with no xAPI or cmi5. See [xAPI and cmi5](https://mindstamp.com/help/xapi-and-cmi5).

### Should I use Captivate 13.2 or Captivate Classic?

Use Captivate 13.2 for new projects. It is the current version, and Adobe says it will support Classic until most of your projects have been migrated, with no end date given. Every Captivate subscription includes both, and both have a web object for the Mindstamp player. If your all-new Captivate shows no **Web Object** under **Add media blocks**, check your version: an Adobe community answer from December 2024 says 12.4 had none.
